Abstract
:
Research has been conducted to improve vaccine rates in adults but remain to be suboptimal in the United States. Current literature has found adults lack understanding of the importance of vaccinations and access to reminder systems to track and manage immunization records. As a result, the challenge exists for adults not knowing how to utilize patient centered technology for their health. A pamphlet was created to educate adults on the available health tracking apps and patient portal systems that may be used to access, manage, and track personal immunization records. By bringing awareness to patient centered technology that can be used for immunization records the adult population can improve vaccine rates and reduce vaccine preventable diseases. The authors experience in health information technology (HIT) was combined with expert knowledge. The experts had experience in clinical informatics, vaccines, infectious disease, and communications. Feedback from these experts guided the author to create the final educational resource pamphlet. In future, this pamphlet may be distributed to the adult population to bring awareness to patient centered technology that can be used for immunization records, improve adult vaccine rates, and reduce vaccine preventable diseases.
