This thesis describes a study of the production of Lambda° hyperons and mesons from the interaction of negative K mesons, of momentum 1.47 GeV/c, in a hydrogen bubble chamber, with the object of investigating the complex system of strange particle and multi-pion resonant states, suggested and confirmed by experiments carried out at Berkeley, California, and at Brookhaven, New York. This work forms part of a general investigation into the properties of negative K meson interactions in hydrogen carried out by a collaboration of research groups from the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CBRN), Geneva, and from the Universities of Amsterdam, Glasgow and Vienna. Chapter I contains a survey, from both theoretical and experimental viewpoints, of the field of study as it existed at the time at which the experiment was performed. Particular reference is made to the experiments which led up to this research project, and to the properties of those resonant states which were found in the course of the various interactions studied. In Chapter II is described the K- meson experiment at CERN. From this bubble chamber experiment, a considerable quantity of film was obtained. In order to analyse the photographs, two machines, one for scanning the film, and the other for measuring it, were constructed. These are described in Chapter III.
