Abstract:
The author argues in this dissertation that a biblical healing-discipleship trauma counseling model for female sex trafficking survivors can be drawn directly from the identity, life, teachings, and healing-discipleship ministry of Jesus Christ as seen in the Gospel of Matthew.
In chapter 1 the author introduces the problem and scope of global sex trafficking and the need for a biblical trauma counseling model for survivors.
In chapter 2 the author surveys the psychological research concerning the severity and complexity of sex trafficking trauma and identifies the four most common psychological diagnoses: Anxiety Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and Major Neurocognitive Impairment.
In chapter 3 the author establishes an exegetical foundation for the biblical trauma counseling model from the life and teaching of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.
In chapter 4 the author examines the trauma counseling approaches that have been utilized by counselors working with survivors of sex trafficking. The phenomenon of post-traumatic growth is discussed and presented as a possible outcome of a Jesus-centered, healing-discipleship, biblical trauma counseling model for survivors.
In chapter 5 the author presents an overview of Old and New Testament passages concerning prostitution and harlotry. From the Gospel of Matthew, the author examines Jesus' identity as the Son of God and the Son of Man, His healing and discipleship ministry, and how He reached marginalized girls and women with His healing-discipleship ministry. The author discusses Christian counseling approaches and presents a healing-discipleship biblical trauma counseling model for female sex trafficking survivors from the Gospel of Matthew, here known as the Beatitude Trauma Model.
In chapter 6 the author summarizes the dissertation, identifies further research, and provides recommendations to Christian churches, recovery homes, and ministries that are reaching female sex trafficking survivors with the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.
