The World in Color is a chamber orchestra piece that deals with the representation of the extramusical within the musical. In The World in Color, I write music that has deep connectivity with the extramusical source -- the idea of people seeing in color. In contrast to music that bears only a superficial relationship with its extramusical inspiration, I transform the most salient qualities of my subject metaphorically into musical materials and processes. These components become generative processes that guide the development of my music.
