Abstract:
Lean stratified flames are useful for increasing fuel consumption efficiency and reducing pollution. The flame has been used in many direct injection internal combustion engines. A fundamental information of stratified flame is needed for improving the design of lean stratified flame engines. Darmstadt turbulent stratified flames (TSF) is a laboratory scheme flame configuration to study stratification's effect on turbulent flames. In this research, the composition probability density function (PDF) transport model is employed to simulate one of the Darmstart turbulent stratified flames, TSF-A. Different micro-mixing models are tested with varying mixing model constants. The results of composition PDF model are also compared with solutions of laminar finite-rate simulations and Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) simulations to show the performance difference. An conjugate heat transfer simulation is done to study the influence introduced by burner heat loss.
