Abstract:
The need to produce highly skilled Advanced Practice Registered Nurse's (APRN) is more important than ever. The Institute of Medicine and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, together have recommended the creation of more user-friendly pathways for RNs to obtain higher education after licensure. Therefore, any hindrance or obstacles to enrollment and/or graduation rates of APRN programs should be investigated and remedied.
Many research studies have pointed to the high prevalence of burnout among medical students. However, burnout has not been studied in nurse practitioner (NP) students. One can assume that there are similarities to medical students, as the types of clinical experiences nurse practitioner students have are similar to those of medical students.
This project aims to raise awareness of the potential of burnout in NP students at California State University, Los Angeles, identify if participants are at risk for burnout using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, General Survey, for Students (MBI-GS (S)), and makes recommendations for research and interventions.
