Abstract:
Adversaries to the United States have evolved their malware over the past twenty years. These evolutions cause the adversaries to pose a threat to national security. North Korea has had several evolutions in their capabilities and technology ranging from Distributed Denial of Access attacks to obtaining access to their victims' computers to mine cryptocurrency. Russia has evolved from website defacement to interfering with the presidential election of another Nation-State. China has evolved from simple attacks that did not give them control of their victims' machines to using their cyber capabilities to steal trade secrets from other Nation-States. While these adversaries pose threats to the United States, there are several ways the United States could strengthen their cybersecurity defenses. These methods include upgrading antiquated technology, use better practices and standards with their zero-day exploits, making stricter rules for other Nation-States committing cyber-attacks against the United States, and putting fake trade secrets with real ones to confuse, damage, or track attackers.
