Abstract:
The Lucid Dream of Unreality is an original composition for full orchestra. The work attempts to depict an awakening from a dormant and dreamy mindset to a more aware and lucid mental and emotional state. The perception of an alternative reality, which is not necessarily more pleasant, becomes a conscious process that is reflected in the musical narrative. Through technical manipulations and intervallic developments, a simple three-note motif becomes the main material with which the piece is constructed. The pre-compositional planning of The Lucid Dream of Unreality is inspired by three sources: the artist Laura Bigger's screen-print Black Hole, the theory of Gestalt psychology and musical works by John Corigliano, James McMillan and John Adams.
