Through Twisting Prisms: A Compositional Process is an examination of and reflection on the factors which contributed to the development of my individual musical composition process. It is an investigation into the possibilities of how exposure to early childhood trauma and the possibility of undiagnosed autism may have combined to shape my specific musical sensibilities, outlook on composition approach, and development of music as a personal spiritual meditative practice. It chronicles and connects how cartography, symmetry, asymmetry, cultural and historical expectations, communal notions, fractals, mazes, labyrinths, expansion, contraction, lattices, idiosyncrasies, and language have intermingled along the path of birthing my varied compositional processes, engaging intervals, melodies, harmony and rhythm as building blocks for mazes and labyrinths. It begins to unpack and elucidate larger introspective questions concerning developing a musical language or mapping a personal systemic approach to composition and performance.

Chronicling the development of my letter notes name scores and their juxtaposition with western notation, it is an initial endeavor into a deeper journaling and documentation of my artistic practice. With the guidance and mentorship from Jackie Blake, Jacqui Height, Wadada Leo Smith, Roscoe Mitchell, Vinny Golia, Marilyn, Crispell Kristen Erickson, Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins I have come to affirm and follow my idiosyncratic lens. Through Twisting Prisms: A Compositional Process is a self-critical rumination and musing on mapping and tracing my systemic musical inclinations. It proposes that processes which generate a repository of fractal intervallic building blocks, harmonic blueprints based on expansion /contraction, and rhythmic lattices is steeped with intrinsic musical colors and shapes waiting to be explored.
