Abstract:
This thesis motivates the use of LPWAN communication technologies to design and develop Internet of Things (IoT). The research focuses on design and development of paper printed IoT device whose circuitry is printed on paper based substrate and uses sigfox for communication. The paper printed circuit is called a tag which is a complete IoT device with MCU, sensors, antenna and flashing circuit. We explored different semiconductor for different applications and designed the most optimized and efficient IoT device. A brief overview of sigfox network is presented which describes the how it differs from traditional communication technologies. Primary focus was on logistics based applications. Simulation and real world tests were performed to check the overall performance of the tag and antenna. The results were positive and proved that printed technology was very much comparable with regular printed circuit boards.
This research broadens the way for newer IoT applications and how they can be designed and developed. As their is always some room for improvement, there is possibility to further decrease the thickness of the device by printing the discrete circuit components.
