Abstract:
Some children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder begin to show signs when they are very young. Some of those signs are (a) lack of joint attention (b) lack of understanding of non-verbal cues (eye contact, gestures, etc.) (c) impairments in structural language development, and (d) is- sues with self-regulation. Early intervention is key to supporting children showing these signs of autism spectrum disorder. Children's first experiences shape the way they learn many social- emotional skills such as self-regulation, labeling and identifying emotion effectively, and com- municating and using language with others. The main goal of this product is to attempt to fill the gap in direct and explicit social and emotional teaching to children who are toddler-aged. Specif- ically, toddlers showing early signs of autism spectrum disorder would be targeted while all tod- dlers would benefit from the curriculum.
