Abstract:
Despite growing awareness and defenses to address increasingly sophisticated social engineering attacks, governments and organizations in developing countries have been slow to adopt countermeasures into their security programs. This exploratory qualitative study was conducted to examine the threats and countermeasures to social engineering among organizations in Ghana to determine the current dissemination of anti-social engineering programs and policies. A sample of security practitioners from various organizations in Ghana were recruited. Participants completed a survey assessing their use of various anti-social engineering tools and techniques. The findings reported even though security conscious organizations are dealing with prevalent threats, there is still immense need for awareness and education of social engineering threats in most organizations in Ghana. Keywords: social engineering, cybercrimes, security culture, developing countries, Ghana.
