Animal Prufrock's Transperformative Arts Theory (APTAT) is a theory, framework, methodology, and praxis that aims to expand the rigor and range of contemporary performance by liberating students from various deeply ingrained and normalized constraints. Many of the ideas and practices of APTAT originate in theater. Specifically, the works of Peter Brook (1968/1995) and Jerzy Grotowski (1968/2002) are re-formed and joined with the ideas of bell hooks (1994), Barbara Brennan (1988), Audre Lorde (1984), and other thought leaders to create this new transdisciplinary approach. Drawn together by a transgender artist scholar, the transperformative aesthetic and radically liberatory pedagogical principles create an effective approach for any artist engaged with transformative work, regardless of identity.
