When it comes to child sexual abuse and clinical practice, therapeutic treatments tend to focus on the presenting secondary problems and behavioral issues for intervention. According to the research, fewer studies focus on the process of disclosure as a specific area for treatment. The purpose of this appreciative inquiry is to enhance understanding of the process of how sexual abuse is disclosed and to answer the research question: given their understanding of how disclosure of child sexual abuse occurs, what can clinicians do to improve practice techniques in relation to disclosure that can aid in the healing process? Participants included professional clinicians who currently work with child and adolescent victims of sexual abuse. Interviews elicited professional experiences and perspectives from clinicians as it relates to working with this population. Triangulation included individual interviews with clinicians, statewide statistics, and a field research journal. Data analysis comprised of categorizing and coding, theme identification, and interpretation of findings. The expected findings revealed that clinicians share a collective understanding of the process of how disclosure occurs and offer a wealth of personal insight to enhance professional development and treatment innovation. The results of the study may add to the body of knowledge on the understanding of disclosure of childhood sexual abuse and offer change to current practice techniques to aid in the healing process.
