Abstract:
A scholarly inquiry into ethics in financial matters has revealed that mortgage malfeasance is a possibility and lenders can continue to make efforts to avert any such problems in the industry. The focus of this exploratory case study was to review the potentiality of malfeasance in home ownership processes among mortgage lenders in the Raleigh, North Carolina region. A total of 20 completed participant investigations served in the process, establishing 3 focal points with 100% participation. All questions focused on eliciting participant perspectives against the backdrop of ethical malfeasance potentiality among mortgage operators. The conceptual framework for the study was the theory of moral development with the support of ethical code of conduct. Interview questions were used in this explorative case study to understand ethical conduct in the industry to identify any malfeasance potentiality that might exist. The study revealed that mortgage employees are under pressure to assist their clients. Participants commended practitioners for adherence to rules and regulations and advocated continued strict adherence. Mortgage officials must receive continuous training in which they must learn about new laws and procedures. The need for public trust was a major element in the findings. Public and private agencies must collaborate to bridge communication and knowledge gaps. This study will be of immense benefit to future executives within the mortgage industry and beyond.
