Abstract:
This heuristic study explored the experiences and perceptions of women entrepreneurs from the perspective of eight women who belong to the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) in the southwest United States. Data analysis revealed the five themes of (a) reasons for becoming an entrepreneur, (b) influences, (c) obstacles, (d) perceptions, and (e) success secrets. These themes and the patterns that support them revealed that entrepreneurism for these women was a result of a drive towards independence and a career that was in alignment with their authentic self. The influences, obstacles, and perceptions of women entrepreneurs both support and hinder the success of this population.
