Statistics show that one in three women worldwide will fall victim to domestic violence in their lifetime. Statistics within the United States further report that the majority of these women are from low-income communities. These staggering statistics, however, only reflect the population of women who actually report abuse to authorities or seek resources to aid them in seeking refuge. It is, therefore, important to question how many unaccounted victims of abuse there are, and from which communities they come. While highly publicized cases of domestic violence may involve high profile women and men, incidences of domestic violence within affluent communities are actually often shrouded in secrecy and considered non-existent. This assumption problematically reinforces the stereotype and social stigma that domestic violence is only an experience had by "poor" women. Furthermore, while numerous mass media campaigns attempt to raise awareness around the issue of domestic violence, this project's research has shown that affluent women have been left out of these campaigns' target audiences. This project attempts to correct this critical oversight by proposing a highly targeted media campaign: Pledge of Power. Pledge of Power has been developed in order to specifically target women of affluence, and encourage them to report abuse and speak up on behalf of other victims of abuse.
