Abstract:
Early lactate monitoring for wound management is vital for preventing chronic behavior. Common practices require blood analysis in large volumes, using expensive, time consuming laboratory techniques that discourages people from seeking proper medical attention. Therefore, current research has sought to create point of care biosensors, combining chemical sensing on a biocompatible device. However, numerous devices fall short in exhibiting mechanical properties equivalent to tissue or skin. Herein, a flexible and stretchable electrochemical biosensor was developed on thin gold electrodes for determining lactate concentration in wound exudate on the skin surface. The structural designs advanced mechanical properties of the sensing system to endure multiaxial stress and limit resistance with skin. The enzymatic electrochemical lactate sensor showed the device functions within metrics for skin compatibility and sensor performance in sensitivity of 0.5186 microA/mM with statistically significant selectivity (P < 0.05).
