Abstract:
The study addresses Public relations and Social Responsibility in Royal Jordanian Airlines, it aims to identify the formation and philosophy of Royal Jordanian, the reality to practice Public relations and social responsibility undertaken by Media and Communication and Social Responsibility department as a model for Public relations in the National Airlines. The study seeks to disclose the formation and development of Royal Jordanian Airlines, its mission, vision and value. In addition to the policies governing the operations as well as regulatory framework of the Media and Communication and Social Responsibility including tasks, activities and communication methods, which exercised and used. Moreover. The Study concludes a set of results, in particular:
1. The study found that the formation of the public relation body in RJ is associated with the formation of the company and it maintains its advanced position in the organizational structure despite nomenclature. The Department of Public relations, which was founded at the beginning of seventies, is one of the important departments at the national level. It got the award of the best Public relations Management in Jordan in 1981. 2. The current organizational structure reflects the existence of a competent and independent body that responsible for tasks and implementation of the communication programs in RJ and it is directly managed by the General manager/the chief executive officer of RJ. It reflects the interests of the senior management towards activities of the Department of Information and Communication, Corporate Social Responsibility and its effective role in the communication process. The organizational structure of the Media and Communication and Social Responsibility is compatible with sections of responsibilities and competencies. The Department of Media, Communication, CSR, and Commercial Division jointly in responsibilities of company's promotional activities. 3. The study indicated that Communication, and Social Responsibility executes its vision, mission and goals within framework of the Communications Strategy. This Strategy based on maintaining good and strong relations with the media (local and international), press institutions and local community in order to ensure a qualified media coverage. 4. It revealed a lack of clarity in the implementation of the Media and Communication and Social Responsibility of the role of evaluation of their programs through conducting studies, researches and surveys to identify public trends and opinions at the internal and external levels. 5. It indicated the staff shortage of the department despite the existence of a variety of specialties and there is an overlap between the sections' functions in the department, which makes them sometimes unclear. 6. It also revealed that the Media and Social Responsibility uses various communication tools that vary between the traditional and modern publicity tools. 7. Programs of Corporate Social Responsibility of RJ have been distributed in the following fields: supporting the non-profit association's charities, the poor and needy, education, social development, health, environment, sport and supporting local activities and events and culture.
