The internet and digital technology are revolutionary mediums by which planning processes can better facilitate citizen participation. Never before has there been such a medium able to deliver media-rich planning information and tools directly into the homes of citizens at every hour of the day. This thesis explores a range of planning processes from traditional citizen participation techniques to the future of digital interaction between planner and citizen. The goal of this thesis project is to create a working internet-based planning support system that enhances citizen participation. It is posited that digital visualization techniques and information design play a necessary role in citizen comprehension of and interaction with planning tools and information.
