Özet
Purpose: The purpose of this Clinical Scholars Project (CSP) is to investigate the influence of adherence therapy on antidepressant medication compliance and treatment outcomes of adult patients suffering with major depressive disorder (MDD). Sample: Forty depressed patients, diagnosed and treated at the Progeny Psychiatric Group clinic were assigned to receive or not receive adherence therapy. Method: Severity of depression symptoms will be measured with the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) at the beginning and end of the project. Patient satisfaction scores will also be addressed via surveys at the end of trials with the utilization of Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ). Results: A strong relationship was evident between the decrease of HDRS scores with patients exposed to adherence therapy, and treatment outcomes during follow up appointments, did influence participants and increased medication compliance (p < 0.05). There is an estimated mean difference between pre-and post HDRS scores of 18.8-5.5 = 13.3 (SD = 4.8). The CSQ measured after the trial in both groups of patients showed (M = 29.11, SD = 3.08) and no adherence group (M = 28.46, SD = 1.81). Implications: This was designed to inspire patients to obtain adequate pharmacotherapy through adherence therapy, which is shown to be associated with a decrease in HDRS scores. Conclusion: The goals of the interventions are to maximize the patients' understanding of medications, and side effects. This project suggests that engaging patients during treatment is effective and beneficial; as it warrants further studies with possibly a randomized controlled trial (RCT).
