This study examines hazing in Black Greek-Letter Organizations (BGLOs) on college and university campuses, via the lenses of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) leaders' perspectives relative to the impact of moral thoughts and action on the practice of hazing. Characterized by the proliferation of physical, mental, and psychological abuse, injuries, deaths, institutional sanctions, along with civil and criminal sanctions, BGLOs must systemically address these perils or, as many critics believe, become non-existence (Parks, 2008). While hazing has existed since the early 20th century, efforts to end hazing have been largely fruitless (Parks, 2008). Bandura's (1977) Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), the theoretical orientation for the study, posits that people learn by watching the actions of others. SCT proports that people have the capacity to self-regulate their thoughts, emotions, motivations, and actions, a mechanism by which individuals control and direct their actions. Self-efficacy, an integral part of Bandura's theory (Bandura, 1997), acknowledges self-belief which is "belief in one's capability to organize and execute courses of action required to manage perspective situations" (p. 2). Using an explanatory case study methodology which exams the how and why of a phenomenon, digitally recorded telephone interviews, a focus group, and an examination of historical documents comprised data collection. Data analysis unveiled the following themes: (a) power and control; (b) intimidation and vulnerability; (c) physical, mental and psychological abuse; (d) longevity of hazing; (e) legal ramifications of hazing; (f) zero tolerance for hazing; (g) culture and tradition; and (h) need to belong. Development of initiatives to address hazing, strong leadership, clearly defined organizational policies, and organizational support for a zero-tolerance of hazing commands the attention the NPHC and BGLOs. Findings must be shared with university officials, college and university group advisors, parents, aspirants, BGLO's members, and policymaker to adequately address the issues and challenges in BGLO in developing workable solutions to eradicate hazing.
