Özet:
The great expansion of research in the coordination chemistry of nitrogen-sulfur donor ligands has taken place during the recent years. The studies on the complexation behaviour of various thiohydrazides with transition metal ions are few due to the rapid cyclization and decomposition of the ligands.
A wide spectrum of the chemistry of metal complexes derived from sulfur ligands ranges from synthesis to application in many diverse fields. However, not much work has been done on the transition metal complexes of ligands having oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen donor atoms.
Thiosemicarbazides, substituted thiosemicarbazides, thiohydrazides, thiosemicarbazone of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes and ketones, S- and N-substituted dithiocarbazates and thiocarbohydrazides are known to form deprotonated complexes very easily as compared to hydrazides. Also, sulfur donor ligands form more stable complexes with soft or class 'b' metals due to the stronger metal-sulfur bonding.
The chemistry of substituted thiosemicarbazides and thiosemicarbazones has received much attention due to their significant biological activity and medicinal properties. Some 3d metal complexes of substituted thiosemicarbazides, alpha-N-heterocyclic carboxaldehyde thiosemiearbozones and substituted dithiocarbzates have shown very remarkable antineoplastic activity. Recently, significant carcinostatic activity was shown by thiohydrazides and thiohydrazones. Although, thiohydrazides are structurally similar to thiosemicarbazides, not much data is available on the antibacterial and antifungal activity of transition metal complexes of N-substituted thiohydrazides and thiohydrazones. There is very little information available on the synthesis and structural studies of the metal chelates obtained from thiohydarzides and their N-substituted derivatives. Therefore, it was our interest to synthesize and characterize transition metal complexes of thiohydrazides in search for new biologically active metal complexes. Mn(II, III), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(n) and Zn(II). Complexes of N-phenyl-N'-2-furanthiocarbohydrazide, HPhfth (having nitrogen and sulfur donor atoms), N-benzoyl- N'-2-furanthiocarbohydrazide (H2Bfth), N-nicotinoyl-N'-2-furanthiocarbohydrazide (H 2Nfth) and N-salicyloyl-N'-thiobenhydrazide (H2SBth) (having oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur donor atoms) have been synthesized, characterized by various physico-chemical methods and their biological activity (antibacterial, antifungal and antitumor) studied.
