Özet:
The present work is a study of achievement tests and their relationship with the tests of intelligence, creativity and anxiety. It consists of two closely inter-related parts. In part A, the achievement tests being given to the students of M.A. and B.Sc. Ordinary and Higher Ordinary classes in the Department of Psychology, Glasgow University, were analyzed in terms of Blooms' Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, by a number of raters. In Part B of the study, tests of intelligence, creativity and anxiety were given to a sample of 65 students of the Ordinary and the Higher Ordinary classes. The marks obtained by the students on the achievement tests as a whole, and on achievement test of various educational objectives, were correlated with the above psychological tests. Apart from the analysis of achievement tests in terms of educational objectives, five hypotheses were tested: 1. The raters will show a high degree of agreement in classifying the achievement test items according to Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives. 2. The creativity measures will correlate highly with each other and their correlations with intelligence will not be significantly different from zero. 3. While the test of intelligence will correlate equally with achievement items of Knowledge and Comprehension (Category (a)), and those of Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation (Category (b)), the creativity measures will have no correlation with the items of Category (a) and significantly higher correlations with the items of Category (b).?4. Tests of creativity will add significantly to the prediction of achievement over and above that obtained by the intelligence tests alone. 5. The scores on anxiety tests will be positively related with the achievement items of Knowledge and Comprehension, and negatively with the items of Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation. Results The first three hypotheses were confirmed. The analysis of achievement tests in terms of educational objectives showed that while the sentence-completion and the multiple-choice tests being used in the Department assessed only the knowledge of subject-matter, the short-note and essay-type tests covered a broader range of objectives. The analysis also showed that the Ordinary class was being assessed largely for Knowledge, while the Higher Ordinary examinations placed a little more emphasis on the higher cognitive objectives. While the intelligence tests seemed to be essentially unrelated to achievement in both the classes, the tests of creativity showed negative correlations with achievement in the Ordinary class and positive correlations with achievement in the Higher Ordinary class. The test of anxiety was found to be positively related with achievement in the Ordinary class and unrelated with achievement in the Higher Ordinary class. An attempt was made to explain these differences in terms of the types of achievement tests being given to these classes. Anxiety was found to be negatively related with creativity, and unrelated with intelligence.
