Özet:
The purpose of this research is to examine the factors contributing to the high incidences of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among Latina women. The objectives of this analysis are to review rates of domestic violence, along with a discussion on its impact on women's physical and mental health. Also, this study examines the various themes that contribute to the issue and discusses micro, mezzo, and macros level interventions that can improve the social problem.
This study includes a qualitative content analysis with an extensive literature review of scholarly peer-reviewed articles with the dependent variable of domestic violence. The significance of the findings is in the complexity of resolving this issue. Younger, less educated and underprivileged women with low-socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to experience higher rates of IPV. The analysis also reveals that substance abuse and cultural beliefs and attitudes are also contributing factors to IPV. Furthermore, structural and institutional barriers including immigration status, gender and lack of knowledge of legal rights make it more difficult for Latina victims to leave their abusers. This study also includes a prototype case study that calls for micro, mezzo, and macro interventions.
Despite ongoing efforts to address IPV among women and particularly Latinas, high rates persist. The high rates of DV are affecting the well-being of the women relying on services needed to address their needs. It appears shortages of resources such as shelters, safe homes, and routine clinical screening may be attributed to the issue. Additional research is needed to understand factors contributing to the high rate of IPV, and to explore strategies that ensure a systemic response to the problems of battered women and their physical and mental health.
