Özet:
Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for the majority of recorded Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) related deaths and infections, with countries like Zimbabwe having among the largest affected populations and countless numbers of children orphaned by the disease. Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, and social constructivist theory were used in this qualitative exploratory research study. 9 social workers in a focus group, and 2 in individual interviews provided their perspectives on the services and interventions that are beneficial for children orphaned by AIDS in Harare, Zimbabwe, and the factors that contribute to their success when implementing services. Implications of this study revealed valuable information about the well being of the children and social workers, and positive aspects of services that can be built on to better serve this population of children. Findings also revealed the great strengths of social workers in Zimbabwe, who are successfully navigating challenging circumstances to successfully implement services.
