Özet:
This paper discusses the experiences Black entrepreneurs have with U.S. commercial banks as they attempt to acquire a business loan. Business loans are not equally obtainable to all people, and this is known as lending discrimination. In addition, lending discrimination disproportionately affects Black people. Furthermore, the process of a borrower attempting to obtain a loan qualifies as an exchange relationship, thus, exchange theory is used to analyze the bank-borrower interaction. Also, according to identity theory, when a person does not have a successful exchange, they will experience negative emotions and avoid attempting to acquire a loan again in the future. Thus, loan discrimination causes the victim to have a negative experience and miss out on the benefits associated with owning your own business.
