Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Because of different characteristics of right-sided cancer (RCC) and left-sided colon cancer (LCC), identification of gene expression in RCC and LCC is considered a potential means of prognostication, and furthermore, could reveal important predictive markers for the response to treatment. Patients with RCC have poorer clinical outcomes than those with LCC, interestingly, women have a lower incidence of colon cancer than men but have a higher propensity for RCC. This study provides a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis of differentially expressed genes and pathways involved in sex and anatomical location of the cancer in the colon by conducting enrichment analysis using public Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets. We verified that patients with RCC are older than patients with LCC, and identified differently expressed genes in each dataset when comparing different sexes and anatomical location of colon cancer. Our results show that pathways involved in signaling, immune response and metabolism are related to occurrence RCC. Pathways involving regulation of gene translation may influence the risk of RCC among women.
