Özet:
Depression amongst older adult Latinos has been increasing as the older adult population also rises. Older adult Latinos are less likely to obtain mental health treatment because depression symptoms are untreated or unrecognized. This thesis project examined the factors that contribute to depression amongst older adult Latinos and the effectiveness of current depression interventions. Two literature reviews were conducted and forty-five scholarly articles were used to expose the factors that contribute to depression amongst older adult Latinos and current interventions. The factors that were found to contribute to depression were arranged in the following themes: population characteristics, social interactions, and health conditions. Micro-level interventions, community-based interventions, and collaborative care interventions were explored and collaborative care interventions and treatments delivered in Spanish were found to be the most effective in reducing depression. Practice recommendations include implementing collaborative care programs which are culturally tailored to older adult Latinos.
