This qualitative study was important because everywhere you turn unethical decisions are being made or unethical acts are taking place. In some cases, organizations create a code of ethics but do not discuss that code with their team members. Some organization do not have adequate training programs set up to help minimize unethical behavior. Though there are Acts such The Sarbanes- Oakley Act in place to help minimize unethical behavior that is not enough. Something else is needed. The study topic for this multi case qualitative study was centered around unethical behavior because it can impact every individual in any aspect of life. This study was important to validate the theory that unethical behavior has become the new norm such that organizations would look at their existing training programs and make necessary revisions to give their team members the tools needed to help minimize unethical behavior. The method of research used for this qualitative study was done by conducting interviews with administrative and maintenance staff at New Mount Olive Baptist Church. The principal investigator wanted to investigate:Why has unethical behavior become the norm in the market place? and Why teaching morals, ethics, and social responsibility is important to an organization's training program? According to Kohlberg not all individuals reach the final stage of cognitive development. If moral awareness can be developed through education and training such that individuals could make a moral decision, then existing training programs should be revised such that moral awareness can be achieved by all individuals. The potential impact is that by targeting an individual's cognitive abilities and enhance them through a well-designed or revised training program with the use of habituation as Aristotle and Piaget suggests gives an organization's team members a valuable tool to help them combat unethical behavior. Recommendations for future research would be to examine existing training programs within an organization to see if ethics morals, and social responsibility are being taught and to see if the organization revisits their code of conduct in their training program. If so, the researcher can compare the percentage of unethical incidents that have occurred in an organization with a training program that teaches about ethics, morals, and social responsibility to an organization that does not offer ethics, morals, and social responsibility in their training program. Researchers can improve upon this study by presenting their findings to organizations that do not offer training programs, or organizations that do not include ethics, morals, and social responsibility in their training programs so they create or revise existing training programs to help minimize unethical behavior. The findings and recommendations pave the way for future studies.
