Özet:
The purpose of this project is to clarify, organize, and design the necessary modifications for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) programming for use with individuals with high functioning autism experiencing frequently co-accompanying anxiety. This may provide a spring board so that upcoming practitioners may not only utilize the modified materials, but potentially facilitate further interest and research in modified CBT programming for children and adolescents with high functioning autism. Many individuals with HFA experience not only language and communication deficits which may create the need for modifications to currently existing CBT manuals, but deficits in abstract reasoning skills which may further complicate the administration of traditional CBT. Areas of focus include recognition of emotional states in one's self and others, relaxation techniques geared to reduce anxiety in real and simulated situations, self-monitoring of one's emotional regulation, distress tolerance, as well as an emphasis upon improvement in one's social functioning and interpersonal competence. There will be no human subjects involved with research to address the goals of this project.
