Özet:
Freshwater planarians have been identified as a novel animal model for the study of drug interactions and can play an important role as a screening tool in the forensic setting. In the anterior portion of these invertebrates, is a concentration of neural cells that are believed to be the precursor to the modern brain and by extension the central nervous system. The activation of nerve bundles by chemo and photo receptors allowed for interaction between the drugs present in the environment and worm neural systems. In this study, we exploited planarian negative phototaxis to light during an acute drug exposure paradigm in order to document unique behaviors associated with Ketamine and Phencyclidine. The study further seeks to identify the physical and behavioral effects produced by these two drugs in the chronic setting, and determine potential histological methods for future evaluation of worm physiology.
