Özet:
Public child welfare is an increasingly high-risk industry, with threats abounding for children, families, and the frontline professionals charged to their care. Other safety-critical industries have looked to safety science to foster a resilient "safety culture" within organizations. This study used a mixed method design to investigate the effects of safety culture on outcomes for children receiving state care. Specifically, this study investigated the safety organizing strategies enacted within a safety culture. Analysis revealed a strong, positive, statistically significant relationship between one safety organizing strategy (i.e., Sensitivity to Operations) and the rates of children entering state custody. Analysis also revealed a statistically significant difference in how frontline staff and their supervisors perceive safety organizing strategies are used by their workgroups.
