Özet:
The way we conceptualize learning impacts the way we teach. A common model construes learning as acquiring individual pieces of knowledge. But researchers in education, cognitive science, and developmental psychology have argued that learning is the process of coordinating information and making connections between the processes and representations. Both of these models of learning have produced learning interventions that, when researched in isolation, have shown to be effective in helping students learn. This thesis aimed to understand how interventions from each of these models, interleaving from the bits model of learning and pre-training from the coordinated model of learning, compared to one another and interacted with the opportunity to struggle. The results indicated that both models of learning can be effective in teaching students about complex content such as healthcare policy. More importantly though, the results indicated that before combining different learning strategies, thought should be given to how putting together multiple learning strategies can change the experience of a student.
