Özet:
Chinese novice therapists often experience difficulty in regulating and controlling their countertransference responses given their lack of clinical experience and use of ineffective skills. To mitigate this problem, dream interpretation as a training intervention has the potential to facilitate the acquisition and development of specific countertransference management skills including self-insight, self-integration, empathy, anxiety management, and conceptualization. The goal of this single case study was to investigate how Chinese novices may use selfadministered dream interpretation as a tool to learn the skills to manage their countertransference by utilizing Kolb's experiential learning theoretical lens. The findings indicated that the female Chinese novice participant's suppressed countertransference feelings during the day might emerge in dreams at night, and dream interpretation was used to process, manage, and resolve these challenging feelings. In particular, the participant developed her self-insight and anxiety management skills during the concrete experience stage of dreamwork; her self-insight skills during the reflective observation stage; her conceptualization, empathy, and self-integration skills during the abstract conceptualization stage, and her anxiety management skills during the active experimentation stage. The research findings suggested dream analysis might have some benefits for beginning therapists, their educators and clinical supervisors, and eventually their clients.
