Özet:
Much has been written about women and millennials, but there is little research that specifically reports the personal and organizational experiences of the female millennial cohort group. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to add to a limited body of research on female millennial managers and their lived workplace experiences and career expectations. Ten female millennial managers from across the United States agreed to participate in this study. They described in their voices their workplace experiences as both a female and as a millennial, and their career expectations. The central research question that guided the study was (a) how do female millennial managers describe the experiential features of their workplace experiences? Two subquestions that followed the central question assisted in narrowing the focus of this research study and cultivated interview questions. The two subquestions were (a) how do female millennial managers describe their career expectations? and (b) how do the workplace experiences frame their outlook for further career advancement? Telephone interviews were audio recorded and transcribed for data collection. A streamlined version of Moustakas' (1994) Modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method was used for data analysis. The textual and structural descriptions of the participant's experiences resulted in fourteen themes that each person valued as being important in their personal and work-life with seven conclusions that the female millennial managers stated should be top organizational priorities. The study's results revealed that in order to attract, engage, and retain this cohort group, the organization should establish transparent career paths, timelines for advancement, leadership development and training opportunities, penalty-free flexible work arrangements, and sponsor relationships. Although there were nine recommendations developed for future research, the female millennials managers specifically mentioned that race and culture impact their workplace experiences and perceptions.
