Özet:
This study investigated methods of instruction in the digital age especially with serious games blended into workplace training. Video game play has become a cost-effective instructional tool. Western militaries and civilian companies use forms of game-based technology for employee training. The research questions for this study sought to determine when serious games are used, does occupational training remain anchored to a pedagogy approach more appropriate for novices than for experienced working adults. Participants included 73 adult learners who completed classroom training with a serious game and adult learners who completed professional development self-study with a serious game. Their performance outcome, motivational pull, and affective learning perceptions of training were assessed. It was discovered that learners in the classroom did no better in performance than self-learners. However, attitudes and motivational pull favored instructor-centered instruction with games compared to game-based learning during self-study. These results add to the growing literature on advantages of video game type simulation with recommendations focused on adapting approaches to use game-based training for occupational training.
