Curriculum development and implementation have been part of the conversation around education since before 1900. Through many changing variations, schools received guidelines about what, when, and how to teach what was deemed appropriate and vital at the time. This designation was often influenced by current events or the political climate, which meant that schools and teachers had to be flexible and prepared to make changes to curriculum quickly, often resulting in shallow understandings of concepts and learning progressions, gaps in available resources and materials, and frustration at the ever-fluctuating expectations of their daily work. These challenges begged the question, "How does all of this change and misalignment affect student learning?" This study focused on the impact of district curriculum documents on student achievement in a small rural school in the Midwest. The purpose of this quantitative explanatory correlational study was to investigate the co-variability of an aligned curriculum and student achievement as measured by state standardized testing. This quasi-experimental study was designed to test whether the variable of fidelity of implementation of teacher-created curriculum documents influences student achievement assessment scores for the students in each implementer's class. The researcher tested for correlation using a linear regression model, which concluded that the null hypothesis, which stated that there was no correlation, was accurate in this study.
