The prevalence of mental health disorders among youth in the United States (U.S.) is rapidly growing. A discrepancy exists between superior outcomes demonstrated in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and subpar treatment results found in community settings. There is an extraordinary need for infusing community mental health with competence in evidence-based interventions. In light of the absence of pertinent measures of CBT competence, this dissertation aims to gauge the effectiveness of a three-day workshop at increasing declarative knowledge among community clinicians in CBT for youth. Dissemination efforts were metricized using selected response assessments per training day, gauging declarative knowledge in CBT. Data was obtained from participants (N = 162) attending two community-based training sites in the U.S. Psychometric properties of the assessments were established and training satisfaction was measured by a five-point Likert scale. Independent samples t-tests were run to assess mean differences between performance on day 1 and 2 (t = 3.27, df = 309, p = <.001), day 1 and 3 (t = 3.33, df = 302, p = <.001), and day 2 and 3 ( t = .549, df = 289, p = .584) assessments. Declarative knowledge significantly increased across the first two days of training. Paired samples t-tests were run to assess individual differences in performance on day 1 items compared to day 2 items on day 2 (t = 4.696, df = 148, p = <.000), and a low magnitude positive correlation was found between performance on day 1 and day 2 items (r = .267, p = < .001) on day 2. Repeated measures ANOVA were run to assess individual differences in performance on day 1 compared to day 2 compared to day 3 items on day 3 (F(2, 282) = 14.949, P = <.001). Items with the most repetition across assessments yielded significantly higher mean scores compared to items with no repetition. The assessments demonstrated acceptable internal consistency. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) on the day 3 assessment identified three factors -- conceptualization, intervention, and CBT structure. Results indicate significant gains in declarative knowledge, high workshop satisfaction, and support brief CBT training of community clinicians and use of the assessments in future dissemination efforts.
