Özet:
Schizophrenia is one of the most severe diseases of the brain and is characterized by a spectrum of symptoms including positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. Pharmacotherapy of the disease involves targeting CNS receptors including dopamine and serotonin receptor subtypes. However, current treatments are associated with debilitating side effects that limit antipsychotic utility. This dissertation explores the use of tetrahydroisoquinoline and 1-(pyridine-2-yl)piperazine moieties as pharmacophores to design and synthesize analogs that display predetermined binding profiles and consequently antipsychotic activities with minimum or none of the known side effects.
