Özet:
Much of the persistence of low-income, first generation college students literature focuses on deficit models: the obstacles and limits this population encounters in their college experience. Few scholars examine strategies and behavior leading to achieving a college degree. This study utilizes an anti-deficit approach to identify the resiliency behaviors of low-income, first generation college students, and its positive impact on their degree attainment. Through semi-structured interviews of eight college seniors, the researcher presents a phenomenological approach to resilience theory as it pertains to persistence. With a focus on success and not on failure, administrators, educators, and policymakers can be better equipped to meet the evolving demographic of today's college students.
