Özet:
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing is an additive manufacturing process used to fabricate solid thermoplastic polymer objects directly from computer modeled designs. Current uses for the technology are restricted due to a limited choice of materials which offer minimal functionality to printed parts. To expand application of fused deposition modeling, this research aimed to add functional attributes to printable polymers through the creation of thermoplastic nanocomposites. Work focused on composite fabrication methods and analytical techniques to characterize dispersion, thermal, and mechanical properties. A protocol to test experimental formulations in a thermoplastic 3D printer was developed. This newly established methodology was used to evaluate several useful functionalities for future fused deposition modeling applications. The demonstrated functional characteristics include electrical conductivity, ferromagnetism, electrochemical energy storage, bacterial resistance, and radiation shielding.
