Özet:
With the aging population in the United States, many of which have co-morbidities, healthcare expenditures are increasing. The number of patients requiring hemodialysis continues to increase therefore, treatments for the hemodialysis associated side effects creates a significant financial burden. This clinical scholarly project was to assess the implementation of an intradialytic hypotension guideline to manage intradialytic hypotension while focusing on the associated cost reduction at the LLUH. One hundred and seventy eight intradialytic hypotension events were reviewed with 92 from the pre-guideline implementation group and 86 from the post-guideline implantation group. As predicted, greater use of normal saline and reduced use of albumin during the post-guidelines implementation directly impacted the overall cost of intradialytic hypotension management. Although the satisfaction survey results were inconclusive, the overall CSP results indicated a significant positive change in the management of intradialytic hypotension.
