Özet:
This study aimed to determine the relationship between nepotism, job satisfaction, turnover, and organizational citizen behaviors in a sample of employees from a family-owned business. The purpose of this quantitative study was to evaluate the effects of nepotism within the workplace and its relationship between turnover rates, job satisfaction, and organizational citizenship behavior. A cross-sectional survey design was performed to identify self-reported perceptions of each of these variables. A hierarchical regression was then performed to determine the degree to which nepotism predicted variance in each of the three dependent variables, as well as relationships between each of the dependent variables. The participants (n = 107) for this study were purposefully selected from employees---family and nonfamily---of a family-owned organization, called Business A, with satellite businesses in surrounding towns. The first regression model was tested for Research Question 1 by controlling the nepotism variable, which was statistically significant, F(1, 97) = 44.570, p < .001. The resulting change was not statistically significant, and turnover rate was not found statistically significant, F(1, 96) = .128, p = .722. The second research question was tested by only controlling the nepotism variable, which was not statistically significant, F(1, 98) = 2.483, p =.118. The full model introduced turnover rate and was not statistically significant, F(1, 96) = 1.464, p = .237. The third research question contained only the nepotism variable and was found not statistically significant, F(1, 97) = 2.483, p =.118. The full model introduced job satisfaction and was not statistically significant, F(1, 96) = 2.781, p = .099. Findings from this study offered important insight into the practice of nepotism and its impact on employees' perceptions and organizational outcomes. The researcher concluded that nepotism could have a significant negative effect on job satisfaction, and employees who perceived high amounts of nepotism in the workplace were likely to experience a reduction in job satisfaction. Future researchers may benefit from identifying trends in nepotism based on organizational type, structure, and industry type. Researchers should distinguish between different types of organizational commitment to determine the impacts of nepotism on organizational performance indicators.
