Özet:
Multicultural counseling competence (i.e., awareness, knowledge, and skills) is necessary to provide effective counseling to an increasingly diverse client population (Sue, 2001). Research suggests higher levels of White privilege awareness correlates with more advanced multicultural counseling competence (Constantine et al., 2001). No studies, however, have examined how this variable relates to and possibly predicts multicultural counseling competence specifically amongst White clinical supervisors. The current study seeks to explore the association between White privilege awareness and multicultural counseling competencies among White supervisors in the counseling profession. Results of hierarchical regressions will find the effects of social desirability, and personal and professional characteristics that White privilege awareness may contribute to significant variance predicting multicultural counseling competence. Implications of the findings can help with future research and the training of White clinical supervisors.
