Özet:
From early in Scripture, the Exodus offered God's people words and symbols to describe new situations and provided a framework by which to understand other acts of deliverance and judgment. Moreover, God invested the Exodus with eschatological expectation and forward-looking elements in preparation for the advent of the Messiah and the unfolding of God's plan of salvation. The motif was woven into the fabric of the Old Testament, as prophets and chroniclers looked to the past to understand the present and the future.
In the New Testament, the motif acquires new dimensions and a christocentric focus. Jesus is portrayed as God's Firstborn Son, the true Israel. Believers, through faith in His death and resurrection, share in Christ's adopted sonship and inheritance. As various authors employ the motif---pervasively, deliberately, yet distinctively---they develop themes such as slavery and exile, redemption and judgment, election and sonship, and the journey of God's wandering people toward rest and a Promised Land. They illuminate the coming of the prophet like Moses, the kingly Branch of David, the ultimate Passover Lamb, the Servant of YHWH, the New Covenant written on hearts, the gift of the Spirit, and the radiant new people-temple.
This study provides a panoramic view of how the Exodus motif is recapitulated and consummated in the New Testament. The first two chapters clarify methodology, establish the importance of the Exodus to Israel's worldview, and survey the developmental contours of the motif in the Old Testament. Subsequent chapters analyze conceptual and verbal indicators of Exodus/New Exodus allusions, storylines with Exodus parallels, and hermeneutical approaches with Exodus typology in the Gospels and Acts, Paul's epistles, Hebrews and the general epistles, and Revelation. Finally, the conclusion explores implications regarding the New Testament use of the Old Testament and the envisioning of biblical theology.
