Özet:
The purpose of this mixed methods explanatory design study with a correlational quantitative portion was to explore professional development and its effect on the satisfaction of healthcare associates. This study explored various types of professional development and their impact on both frontline associates and leaders. This study expanded to investigate the professional development of leaders within healthcare and if it influenced the satisfaction of groups they led. The significance of this investigation reflects the ever-changing healthcare environment. As hospital performance is revealed through a public report card outlining various measures, such as employee satisfaction, consumers of healthcare have the ability to choose providers based on value, health outcomes, culture of safety, and the satisfaction of the institution's patients, associates, and physicians. Healthcare is no longer volume based, but value based. Research suggested professional development has an outcome on healthcare worker and leader satisfaction. A review of literature implied professional development has a direct relationship between associate satisfaction and patient satisfaction. Existing research purported the success of the latter is dependent on associate satisfaction. Hence, the key result of associate engagement as described may be crucial for hospitals to sustain viability in this evolving environment. Associates in this study believed professional development was important and impacted their engagement; leaders participating in the focus group of this study felt associates found more satisfaction with salary and relationships, Leaders felt professional development most impacted associate satisfaction when it focused on building and nurturing relationships.
