Özet:
Major vegetable crops are highly perishable in nature, need least time to grow and most suitable to the grower who divert their production towards the more economical crops. On one side the vegetable is the rich supplement of micro - nutrients (minerals and vitamins) to the vegetarian diet and on the other side it boost the economic condition of the farmers. So the present study entitled "Constraints in Adoption of Improved Vegetable Technology by the Farmers of Varanasi District in U.P.: A System Analysis" was undertaken during the year 2004-07 with the following specific objectives: • To study the socio-economic status of vegetable growers. • To examine the knowledge and adoption level of vegetable growers regarding improved vegetable production technology. • To identify the major constraints faced by farmers in adoption of improved vegetable technology. • To suggest suitable policy implication for the farmers in the study of area.
Varanasi district is one of the major vegetable growing districts in eastern U.P. and was purposively selected. Out of eight blocks of the districts; two blocks having higher area under vegetables namely Araziline and Chiraigaon were selected for the study. Four vegetable growing villages were selected randomly from each block. A list of the vegetable growers along with their cultivated area for each of the selected villages was prepared. The farmers were grouped into three size groups of farms i.e. marginal (below 1 ha), small (1-2 ha) and large (above 2 ha) and 35 percent farmers were selected proportionately in each size groups. Households were randomly selected in each size groups.
