Özet:
The frequency and severity of flood have been found to increase in recent decades, which have adverse effects on the environment, economics and human lives. The catastrophe of such flood can be confronted with reliable flood analysis and advance prediction of flood caused by severe storm events. This study aims to develop an integrated hydrologic-hydrodynamic model for the analysis and prediction of floods and associated vulnerabilities on infrastructures. The application of the method was tested on the Blue River watershed in Missouri; a watershed of historical significance for flood impacts and abundance of data availability for such analyses. The integrated modeling system included two models: hydrodynamic model HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center -- River Analysis System) and hydrologic model SWAT (Soil & Water Assessment Tool). The SWAT model was developed for the watershed to estimate time-series streamflow data at desired locations, followed by the setup of HEC-RAS model for the analysis and prediction of flood extent including extent of inundation in different storm conditions. Both models were calibrated and validated using observed data. The HEC-RAS model was calibrated using flood event of May 2015 and validated for several flood events during the past years. The performance measures used were Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) and coefficient of determination. The well-calibrated modeling setup was used to assess the extent of impacts of the hazard by identification of the flood risk zones and the threatened important infrastructures in those zones through inundation mapping. The simulation results provide water managers the capability to predict the extent of inundation due to floods which will ultimately help with the integration of flood risk assessment information in the urban planning process.
