Özet:
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between socioeconomic status, emotional functioning, extracurricular activities, and family type on alcohol use among adolescents. The following research is a quantitative study in which secondary data analysis research is used as a means of gathering information from the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) using the 2014 Data Dictionary, Teen Survey. For this study, the researcher studied the data using descriptive statistic including frequency, mean, standard deviation, and Chi-square test, Simple logistic regression, and Multiple logistic regression. The findings in this research revealed that there is a significant relationship between gender, poverty level, emotional functioning and its affects on alcohol consumption amongst adolescents. Social work implications are that social workers should utilize the ecological systems theory to gain insight on the multidimensional risk factors associated with adolescent engagement of alcohol use. Suggestions also include collaborating with different support systems such as immediate families, extended families, school staff, coaches, mentors, counselors, religious affiliations, and community agencies to develop preventative measures, treatment programs and interventions for this population. Lastly, social workers will provide psychoeducation to youth and family members about the consequences of using alcohol and how the family and community members can work together to reduce accessibility and pressure to drink alcohol.
